How to add your website to your email signature on Gmail
Updated: Jan 27
Gmail is a free email service provided by Google promising 15GB of storage, mobile access and less spam. Google created a paid version of Gmail ('G Suite') specifically for businesses. The price of G Suite starts at 6 USD (£4.65) per month for their basic package which comes with a customised email (@yourbusiness.com), unlimited group email addresses, 99.9% guaranteed uptime, 30GB storage, zero ads and 24/7 support.
After my clients create an email account, the most common question that I am asked is: How do I add or change an email signature in Gmail? If you're reading this, you are probably in the same boat. But don't worry, we can help! Continue reading to find out how.
First things first, go to Gmail.
From your Gmail Inbox, click on the gear icon located to the right of the 'Search mail' box.
This will take you to your Quick Settings where you'll find your next button right at the top: See all settings.
Once pressing 'See all settings', you'll automatically be placed on the 'General' tab within Settings. Email signature settings are located on the 'General' tab so simply scroll down until you reach 'Signature', and then press '+ Create new'.
A pop up will now have appeared prompting you to name your signature.
This is for your reference only, but we advise giving it a name relevant to the content within the signature i.e. your business name. Once you've picked your name and pressed 'Create', you'll be taken back to the 'Signature' section on the 'General' tab within Settings.
Make sure you're selected on your newly named signature and then in the box to the right, write your email signature. A good email signature includes:
Your first and last name
Your title and department
Your contact details (often an email address and telephone number)
Your business name, website and logo
Your businesses physical address
Social media icons linked to official company profiles
My favourite resources to design email signatures is using the Free Email Signature Template Generator by Hubspot and Canva.
Once you're happy with the contents of your email, you'll now get to choose your signature defaults. These options are right below the screenshot above. Here I will place a screenshot of how ours are set (for new emails use).
To finish the process of setting up your email signature on Gmail, scroll down to the bottom of the page and press 'Save Changes'.
To ensure it really is how you envisioned, send yourself an email. You can then go back in and make changes to your email signature if required.
